New Intake 2020

Hello and welcome to Holywell Primary School!

We know you must have lots of questions about your child starting school so this page will hopefully give you a good idea of what to expect. The Induction PowerPoint Presentation, Induction Booklet and Prospectus should cover all the information you need. We have also created some videos for a virtual tour so that you and your child can view the classrooms and important parts of the school. We hope you will enjoy finding out more about the EYFS staff in the ‘Meet Your Teachers’ document and will find the ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ helpful.

We look forward to meeting you and your child.

Welcome to our new children!

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does my child need to have ready for starting school?

See Induction PowerPoint

  • How do I help my child prepare for starting school?

See Induction PowerPoint

  • What are the transition procedures for starting school?

At this stage, we are unable to confirm exact details regarding you and your child visiting the school before starting. However, we will ensure that you both have an opportunity to visit the school and meet the staff before starting. We will also arrange a part-time timetable to enable children to settle into school in smaller groups. Details will be confirmed nearer the time.

  • When will I know what class my child will be in?

Due to the unusual circumstances this year, we are unable to make these decisions at the normal time. we will inform you as soon as possible.

  • Will my child be in the same class as their existing friends?

We will endeavour to put your child in the same class as at least one other child that they know.

  • What forms of communication does the school use?

The school will use emails, texts and notification via Tapestry to communicate with you.

  • Will I be able to stay in the classroom with my child?

We know that it is important for you and your child to become familiar with the staff and setting during the first few days of transition. However, we know that children tend to settle sooner when they stay in the classroom without their parent so would encourage you to allow them to do this.

  • Which adults will my child be working with?

Please see Meet your Teachers document.

  • Will children be provided with milk and fruit?

See Induction Powerpoint

  • How do lunchtimes work and will my child be provided with lunch?

See Induction Powerpoint & Lunchtime video

  • How do you teach reading and writing?

  • Does my child need to be able to write their name?

Not necessarily, but they do need to recognise it. Please see Induction PowerPoint

  • What opportunities are there for Outdoor Learning?

We are very lucky to have a small woodland on site which the children visit regularly. Please also see the outdoor classroom video.

  • Do you provide wrap-around care?

Our before and after school club is run by Radmoor Nursery.
